Recall where I left off

I climbed to the top of the stand, glanced at both benches, and prepared to signal for serve when I saw out of the corner of my eye a girl run onto the court. She entered in the replacement zone (attack line to base line). Good. She had on a uniform that did not display a bare midriff. Good. She wore a maroon top with black letters, and her teammates wore maroon tops with white letters.

Bad.

Where I'm starting

In my state, all interscholastic volleyball players are girls, so I’m going to use feminine pronouns throughout this series. But if you live in a state where boys compete: Good for you!

An important point to remember about the libero is that her uniform must be obviously different from her teammates. Here are some examples:

  • any color (except tan) and white — legal
  • red and black — legal
  • green and blue — illegal
  • black and brown — illegal
